Re-direct video to rgb port on laptop??
« on: June 04, 2010, 12:12:23 pm »

I would like to utilize an external monitor with one of my laptops and I can't figure out how to do this in VL 6.0 Light. I'm assuming it would require a modification to the xorg.conf file. Can anyone help me out with this?

If you boot up the computer with the external monitor connected, does it show anything?

When booting into XP, the video on the laptop goes blank just as the XP desktop starts to display and the display appears on the external monitor. In VL, the desktop boots to completion on the laptop and I get a "NO SIGNAL" message on the monitor.

I've used xrandr and xorg.conf before.
xrandr is a fiarly easy method, except you have to do the process every time you want the dual displays to work. If you do xorg.conf, it's a more permanent setting.. Here is a simple wiki that shows you how xranrdr is used
