My old computer took a dump... Installed xbuntu to an older dell with nvidia card....
Got sick of xbuntu fast, installed vl 6.0 standard on this box now...

I can't get compiz working. It installs, compiz icon begins but then nothing works, cube and so on. Also window dectorators missing. Yes I did the fix in /ect/profile-d/vasm.sh but still nothing. Seems like compiz is not starting at all, I get no indication its on (rotating cube, whatever)

Can someone tell me exactly what packages to install, seems that may be part of the problem, there is vl6 packages and other stuff when you search compiz in gslapt.

Thank you... I tried this and no go. I actually removed everything and tried this guide twice. Both times, nothing happens once you change to compiz window manager with the fusion icon. Well nothing except dissapearing window decorators...

It seems like the video card is not supported by this build of compiz?

Works in xbuntu... thats a bit strange I would think it should work in vector.
Also interesting is that the vasm.sh file on my other box it would have that line...
Here that line is already commented out...

Any ideas before I throw this computer at a wall? couple hours of this tends to get on your nerves... I'd like to fix this and move on to other setup stuff. Kinda got used to compiz and wouldn't like not having it...

Sorry I got it working. I mean I'm glad I got it working sorry to cry here.

I realized that I wasn't seeing the nvidia screen at bootup anymore, then remembered I reran vasm to reset the max res to 1600x1200... I guess the nvidia driver got dorked up.
Once I ran xsetup again, nvidia splash is back and compiz works great. Surprizingly snappy for a 2ghz machine with a really cheap nvidia card.

Thanks stretchedthin, someday I owe you and a bunch of you guys here a beer.
