I had to get a new 2nd hand MOBO for my VL6-box and have now no more sound.

If I do alsaconf it shows a strange sound card found: "mpu401  snd-mpu401

The same is true for the VL7-alpha2 box.

VL6-KDE-Live gives an error when trying to configure sound and says it
reverts to null or such a thing.

Trying to play a sound I get:
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1008:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
aplay: main:590: audio open error: No such file or directory
aplay is installed.

I did now an adjustment in the BIOS a proper sound card is now found.

Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97

However, trying to play sound I get:

ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1008:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
aplay: main:590: audio open error: No such file or directory.

OK then. The idea came to me last night when half asleep. I noticed that alsamixer
and xfce-mixer showed as a card "USB Camera". In xfce-mixer I could change to
the now real card, however, it would not accept the control settings.

So this morning I unplugged the webcam from the USB port and could get
the sound working. Alsamixer immediately showed as a card now Intel 82801DB-ICH4
What a crazy thing that was.

Now to the problem that I have no Internet connection in VL6 with the new MOBO. I posted that
under Web & Internet and no help has come yet.

Those USB cameras can be troublesome when you're configuring sound. Glad you got it figured out.

I had to get another MOBO since the first one was apparently not compatible
with my software. With this MOBO now I do not have the problem with sound
re USB webcam. Smiley

Unfortunately still now Intenet connection. Huh
