kc1di has built a new Xarchiver package for VectorLinux 7.0.

Code:
xarchiver: xarchiver (A GTK+2 only Archive Manager)
xarchiver:
xarchiver: Xarchiver is a Desktop Environment independent archiver frontend.
xarchiver: All common archive types are supported. RPM and DEB packages are
xarchiver: handled without their package managers. To run it you only need
xarchiver: GTK+2 libraries and obviously the various rar, arj and 7z for
xarchiver: these archive types.
xarchiver: License: GPL
xarchiver: Authors: xarchiver Team
xarchiver: Website: http://xarchiver.xfce.org/

After testing this package please stop back here and let us know how it works for you.

For xarchiver 0.5.2-i586-3vl70:

Can't view the help file.  When I try, it gives me the following feedback:

Quote
Failed to open URI "file:///usr/share/doc/xarchiver/html/index.html".
Error stating file '/usr/share/doc/xarchiver/html/index.html': No such file or directory.

(later edit)
Apparently the package developer put the files in /usr/doc rather than /usr/share/doc.  So, for myself I fixed it by creating links with the following:

Code:
vector://usr/share/doc
root:# mkdir xarchiver
vector://usr/share/doc
root:# cd xarchiver
vector://usr/share/doc/xarchiver
root:# mkdir html
vector://usr/share/doc/xarchiver
root:# cd html
vector://usr/share/doc/xarchiver/html
root:# ls
vector://usr/share/doc/xarchiver/html
root:# ln -s /usr/doc/xarchiver-0.5.2/html/index.html index.html

Anyway, I'm having problems trying to create an archive of various files (including directories) with this tool.  If anyone has done this and can share with me how it's done using xarchiver, feel free to share.

Mark,

I followed your instructions re the help and pushing help now brings up the help screen.  However, clicking on the links within it does not work.  I get the following error:

Quote
The file /usr/share/doc/xarchiver/html/ch01.html cannot be found. Please check the location and try again

Not sure.  The links from the index.html file on my computer all point to the /usr/doc directory, rather than /usr/share/doc (see attachment of screenshot with chapter one, noting the url), so once the index file was properly found on my machine, it then hyperlinked to the other html files in /usr/doc.  Perhaps you're using a newer version from testing.  Again, I'm using the version in the stable repositories.

The commands I ran started in the /usr/share/doc directory.  You may have run the commands from another directory, such as your /home/user directory, which may have screwed up the placement of the links.

This linking of files should not be necessary.  It's a bit careless to place the documentation files in the /usr/doc directory.  Hopefully they'll fix this on xarchiver in version 0.5.2-i586-4vl70.txz
