Kernel u/g => Bootsplash stopped working (SOLVED)
« on: September 24, 2010, 03:00:10 pm »

On VL6.0 Standard, I upgraded the kernel to 2.6.31.8 (following the How To with related video) and all ok - except Bootsplash has gone and I'm getting scrolled text messages on bootup  ???.

I have a multiboot system, and if I boot to the old kernel the Bootsplash still works.

Also, when I do a closedown (click on the green man), I *do* get the Bootsplash  as the system closes down :o

Lilo.conf looks like this (global omitted).

Code: [Select]
# XP
other = /dev/sda1
    label = Windows
    table = /dev/sda
# Linux GUI mode
image = /boot/vmlinuz
    root = /dev/sda7
    label = oldVL6.0
    append = "splash=silent "
    read-only
    initrd = /boot/initrd
# Linux
image = /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31.8
    root = /dev/sda7
    label = VL6.0
    append = "splash=silent "
    read-only
# Mint
image = /mnt/tmp/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-21-generic
    root = /dev/sda2
    label = Mint
    append = " "
    read-only
    initrd = /mnt/tmp/boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-21-generic

Bootsplash images and tools are stored in the initrd image. Your 2.6.31.8 section doesn't specify an initrd. Make it look like the Old VL6 entry and rerun lilo.
