I installed it on my new SOHO Deluxe and nothing has blown up,  though I haven't tested extensively.

On Vector Linux Standard, package breaks x-windows - looking for libpng12.so.0. When I created a link to to libpng.so.0 libcairo complained about missing package.

@johnvan - tysvm for your post! Saved me. If I hadn't remembered seeing it, I'dve resorted to another reinstall of VL. I had upgraded many packages at once on a fresh install after a crash. Wouldn't have known what to suspect, but remembering your post made my first guess the right one.

Ditto johnvan's post, but on my system X just wouldn't start. Downgraded libpng to previous version, and problem solved.

libpng14 on VL60 is going to be a very combustible combination.

There are a large number of functions and calls that have been done away with or replaced in libpng14 and for progams to work with it they actually have to be compiled against it.

Building on VL7.0 alpha which uses libpng14 has been interesting.  I've had to create a number of diff patches, just so a program will build.

Here is a summary of the changes...
http://www.libpng.org/pub/png/src/libpng-1.2.x-to-1.4.x-summary.txt

The way I understand this is that any application that was compiled against libpng12 will want to use one of these deprecated functions or calls and will fail against libpng14.

The libpng1.4.4 broke Frozen Bubble on my VL6 SOHO Deluxe. It wouldn't start and gave an error message that I did not save. I went back to 1.2.37 and Frozen Bubble is happy again. Maybe we need a warning on libpng1.4.4.

SOHO is recent enough that it is probably worth persevering with. I'll see if I can find time to rebuild Frozen Bubble against the new version, and watch out for any other breakages.

For VL6.0 Standard, its not worth trying to fix - too much breakage. I'll move the package to the 6.0soho repo in the next few days.
