lxde/pcmanfm development source now has movable desktop icons

Emphasis on development source -- not the release version, and not VL packages. IMO, that should wait.

Info is on today's LXDE blog.

Not yet time to put this one in package requests, just wanted to give a heads-up.

We have an "unstable" repo precisely for such things, though it is little used...

I wouldn't have found unstable for months yet if you hadn't pointed it out, Joe1962. Could be very useful.

BTW, gvfs is now optional. Even if used, its dependencies have been greatly reduced. http://wiki.lxde.org/en/PCManFM_build_and_setup_guide. Further details are earlier in the blog link I posted.

It'd be nice if someone would package it so we could help test, but I'm not ready to actually request it. As for me, I've decided to pull my hair out over something else as my first packaging attempt.

When I compiled a custom pcmanfm on my old archlinux system, gvfs was a HUGE thorn in my side! SOOOOOO GLAD to see they've done some work to decrease the gvfs-pain.

I still think lxde is moving in the right direction. The desktop is becoming more lean with every release, and they now have a login manager as part of their bundle (optional). I've been using this login manager over GDM with pleasant results.

You know, I've recently been thinking of switching to GUI boot, instead of TUI. I had forgotten all about lxlogin (or whatever its called). Perhaps I should give it a swing.

Is the lxde login manager currently available in 6.0 repos?

it's called lxdm and we do not have it in our repos.
You want the ones from their git repos... they're the latest and greatest.
