Downloaded and installed this iso yesterday... a lot of improvement since the last alpha, but of course, it is still alpha. I like the overall performance of the system. I like the bootsplash theme and matching grub background....nice. the gtk theme is horrible to me, but that's no biggie. I don't even run xfce in it because its a virtual machine running off a usb drive, so I use openbox.

I'd like to see slapt-src bundled in by default on future development releases and even on the final product. Also noticed the cmake package shipped with it is outdated and some stuff I buit had trouble with old cmake, so please upgrade the cmake package.

Just installed and can't boot. It hangs when the CONGRATULATION.....Happy
Vector something window shows up.  Keyboard seems to be disabled. Cursor
blinks on OK.

Tried other install settings, like minimal and different keyboard to no avail.
Keyboard is not enabled. Changed to my VL6 kernel, nothing doing.

While booting up to that CONGRATS window I keep on pressing Caps Lock just to check
it does not react unlike in my VL6 boot.

What could be the reason for this strange behaviour which I have never
encountered before?

Could it be that X is not configuring properly?

Try booting into runlevel 2 and go into text mode.

IF that works, then it's likely to be an X problem.

My testing confirms that USB keyboard and/or mouse does not work when trying to install.

Are you using a USB keyboard or mouse? I had to switch to a PS/2 keyboard and mouse in order to install. Once I got VL7 a3 installed, I was able to switch back to my USB keyboard and mouse and am having no problems.

Put an adapter from USB to PS2 port on the KB and immediately KB responded.

First boot did not detect Intenet, second one did.

I put once a post under kernel that when I changed to kernel 2.6.33.4 in
VL6SOHO, KB did not respond any more. So could this be a kernel problem.
I will try it again changing kernel in VL6SOHO with KB ps2 plug.

BTW, GrannyGeek I posted in  Vectorlinux 7.0 Core Alpha 2 how to change
system to sd* from hd*. Works very well and no need to switch floppies or
what else after that.

Today I felt bored with my perfectly running linux distro, so decided to give the Vector.Alpha#3 a try.
I have been really impressed with the current stage. Setup of the distro run flawlessly for me.
Compiled and replaced the kernel with the latest 2.6.36, PAE enabled, and still everything I've tried continued to work properly. Very nice selection of desktop theme also.
Decided to remove the Cairo staff - I really don't like it, although eye-candy, it quickly exasperates me. As a side effect gslapt was deisnstalled also - had to restore it with slapt-get. And that's currently the only bug I've found. Lastly managed to install and run vlc player and deluge torrent flawlessly from non-vector repositories.
The bottom line - Vector Linux 7 is very promissing and suprisingly stable for an Alpha, it seems more like last Beta stage to me.  Smiley
Please keep the very good work!

Hooked on my VL6 /home and /usr/local directories and seems to be working fine with it
in fact I do not know now which box I am in VL6 or VL7.

Took me awhile to get sound working. Alsaconf claimed it could not find a
valid sound card.

As usual with VL on my PC, exept for VL6SOHO, my printers won't work yet.

Even so I changed the root password none is needed when loging-in as root,
however, the new password is accepted when needed such as in cups or gslapt.

On that cairo-dock clicking on the icons nothing worked. Disabled it, not my type. Cheesy

The new xfce4 seems very nice so I still prefer my fluxbox I am in now.

Installation went fine and I really like the boot theme.
Everything works fine ( sound, wifi,touchpad, ...)
I don't really like the cairo dock. I don't like the default GTK theme but the Faenza icons are awesome!
I'm sure it's going to be an awesome release ( as usual) :-)

great work !

Making some progress now. The A2.x versions would not install on my machines (always some cryptic gambas error. I'm not sure gambas is robust enough for an installer). A3 installed on box with ps/2 connectors. It's looks very good! Maybe I can move that install over to my main desktop.

I am giving up. I can't get the beast to print. Huh

Every reboot I have to do 'alsactl restore' on the command line since all
sound levels are down. After that I still have no sound which comes up after
I start xfce4-mixer and enable PCM under Switches.

Just tried to build a program which failed to run with this warning ...
Code:
pygtk was not compiled with Numeric Python support

I think this would prevent any program that required 'numpy' from running.

When building JWM:

Code:
cd src ; make all
make[1]: Entering directory `/root/pkgs/jwm/2.0.1/tmp/jwm-2.0.1/src'
gcc -c -O2 -march=i586 -mtune=i686  -I/usr/include/libpng14    -I/usr/include/freetype2     -I/usr/include/fribidi   background.c
In file included from background.c:10:
jwm.h:91:50: error: fribidi/fribidi_char_sets_utf8.h: No such file or directory
make[1]: *** [background.o] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/root/pkgs/jwm/2.0.1/tmp/jwm-2.0.1/src'
make: *** [all] Error 2

Replaced fribidi-0.19.2-i586-1vl70 with fribidi-0.10.9-i486-2 from SW13.1 and build completed.
Afterwards I went back to the original fribidi-0.19.2 and JWM still runs.

Can't burn a disk with Brasero.  It does not seem able to find my optical disk drive and I can't find any kind of properties, or configuration options in the menu's to fix that.
