Where is my Hexadecimal editor gone ???
« on: October 17, 2010, 02:34:49 am »
Hi all

I run VL 6.0 gold, with Xfce.  I remember that, in the "good old times" (VL5.9 ?), I
used an hexadedimal editor from kde packages: khexedit. Its display was clear, with
colour enhancements, etc... The only hex editor I can find now is ghex (/usr/bin/ghex2)
which is not as clean, although faster to start.

I would like to use khexedit, but can't find it out (clearly, it's not installed):

root:# whereis khexedit
khexedit: /usr/include/khexedit
(in the answer above, khexedit is a directory, with no executable inside, only libraries)

I searched with gslapt, but it appears nowhere.

Does someone know how to install the needed kde package, so that khexedit is
available again ?

happily running VL6.0
old Pentium 3, 384 MB ram

On my KDE3 system, khexedit came as a part of the kdeutils package. It lists kdebase and kdelibs as dependencies. The total comes to 39 MB download and 119 MB of disk space. Of course, once the KDE plumbing installed you can add a lot of other nice KDE programs.
