Hello.
I apologize for the confusing title but I lack the technical vocabulary  Tongue

when ever I change to another prompt (Ctrl+Alt+F2-6) everything is fine, but when I try to come back to X (Ctrl+Alt+F7) everything gets messy.
somewhat hard to explain so I'll add a screenshot.
The menus are also blank.
http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/6489/screenshotdkp.png
To recover from it I need to reset X (Ctrl+Alt+Back space).

I am using Vector 6.0 standard with GSB 2.22.1 on a GigaByte w536m laptop with Intel Crestline GM 965 video card.
here is xorg.conf if it's needed:

Does it happen with any other desktop environment besides gnome?

Try logging into xfce and try the same trick to see. If xfce works, we have to blame gnome for it.

I know VL does not ship with gnome, so you have to have had xfce4 installed before gnome and probably still do unless you manually removed it (because you said this is VL6 STD, which shipped with xfce4 by default). If this is not the case, then you should try some other window manager, evem a minimal one to see if it is an X problem or a desktop manager problem.

I did remove xfce4 using gslapt but for the sake of trying to figure out what is wrong I reinstalled it, but it also happens in xfce4 as it happened in KDE and gnome.

I noticed another thing.
If I go to any TTY where it shows me the login screen and I simply tap "enter" without a login name and then return to TTY7 then it works fine.

It's probably bad support for your intel chip by the installed driver. You should look for an updated intel driver

Thank you.
Since it can be "Fixed" by simply pressing enter twice at the login, then I don't think think I'll mess with the drivers.
also I tried finding newer drivers but they needed x server 1.6 and I have the 1.4 that comes with vector.

Yeah, that usually means you need newer xorg and that's not fun to upgrade
