I got a Toshiba Satellite A665. It boots with 6.0 std gold with no problems except with internet and little things like that. I first downloaded SOHO final and it stats with gui installer and fails with the tui. in the gui it hangs after i pick the screen rez and comes to a slow crawl when it gets to Installation in progress.  i thought it was the CD so I burnt it again with the same results. I ordered the SOHO deluxe thinking it was my CD's and still the same problem. OK last thing i tried was a bootable USB (thank you VIDEO TUTORIALS) and still slow.  It takes over an hour to get all the names on the lower right box to go through once and still be at 0%. I just let it go once and the most i got it up to was 1%. I tried different screen settings and the basic install for older computers with the same results.  Any ideas

Have you tried using the non gui installer?

At the point where you see the startup
screen and you see

boot:

Type linux

That will start the non gui.

By Download I am guessing you mean install.

I have not heard of this before.

This is the laptop with an i7 Core?

The exact model maybe helpful.

So, let me get this straight....
6.0 STD boots into gui and installs normally... where as 6.0 SOHO barely boots and install is painfully slow.

If this is the case, it could be a kernel issue.... hang tight

Could you try the 7.0 core ISO just for kicks and see if the install process is as brutal as 6.0 SOHO?

Well I came home early and tried with a usb and a cd to install 7.0 alpha 4. In the old installer it will go to finding the iso and tell me that there isnt one there BLA BLA BLA with both the usb and the cd.  In GUI installer it gets to picking the screen size and tests x and never comes out of the blank screen in doth usb and cd.

Should I try the other alphas or just leave it at that.

yes it does. Is there a way of doing it with out installing an OS.  as of now the only one i can get on there is 6.0 standard. It wont boot anymore since i tried to install SOHO

I figured it would be faster just to put std on then wait to find out

Here is me using my Toshiba to tell you it is now booting. I figured i would wait till a later version of 7 came out and alpha 4.15 boots with no problems. My wired internet works now but my wireless still doesn't.  I just got it to boot and thought I would give you a heads up before i try messing with things.  Here is my lspci for every one to see.
