Multimedia cdrom- cinelerra and VL6.0 standard.

I saw the other day someone is again selling the multimedia bonus disc for vector linux...

I'd kill to get cinelerra for vector linux. Does anyone know if that works right with vector linux 6.0 standard?

If so I will be ordering a cd-rom right away. Someone PLEASE let me know...

Sorry, nothing for VL6.0.  It is available for vl7.0 on the MMBD, but if it is the only reason you are getting it, I'd hold off.  Cinelerra has a step learning curve and I tend to use other tools first (openshot, kdenlive for the most part.)  There is a ton of video on Cinelerra on youtube I would advice watching a couple of those then trying it on a Live CD, like Artistix.   It is a powerful tool with some features the others don't have, but it will crash when you click on something you shouldn't and has a bug with ogg/vorbis files (best to convert to mpeg).

I've been editing videos since digital video editing became available for windows, so I think I could handle learning this. I realize its a pretty intense editor but my needs for editing are not so simple, I make or have made music videos and short films. I've been wishing that this becomes available for vector for a long time. Funny that you mentioned artistx because I have checked it out on that, but to do real projects, a live dvd is too slow and cumbersome to use.

When will vector 7 be available as a standard release? I suppose I can upgrade as soon as its stable and released, then I will certainly buy your disc just to get that, to me it would be very worth what your asking just to get this app, anything else I like on the disc would just be gravy to me.

I believe you can get cinelerra for slackware elsewhere. I have installed it VL as as stretchedthin states there are some bugs. For me it would crash occassionally but I did manage to create a few short home movies. I don't have the experience or background that you seem to have so you might have better success with it.

Waiting for VL7 to be a stable release is months away as it is still in alpha testing.

Well I've waited this long so I guess a bit longer won't matter that much...

I'd rather wait for a simple install from cd then mess with a slackbuild I think. I can easily re-install vector from scratch, just by copying off my dos+ windows directories and icons/wallpaers/documents and so on... Then copy them back after installing vl7

At least there is something to look forward to. I just got adobe audition working nicely under wine. If I have cinelerra working decently and adobe audition, I will probably never touch a windows computer again (except at work) I'll have a party when thats possible...

If you have free space on your hard drive, consider installing VL7 alpha 4 and the MMBD. I'm using it as my main OS and find it very stable and usable. I have the MMBD for VL7 but unfortunately because of a Christmas project I have to do in Windows, I haven't had a chance to install any of the goodies on the disk. I hope my project will be finished in a few days and then I can have at it.

If you install VL7 and encounter difficulties, it would greatly help the development process if you reported them.

Iif you decide to try the MMBD, the purchase entitles you to 5 future downloads as updates come out.  So if anything changes from the vl7.0alpha to the beta to the final release the MMBD will be adjusted as well and you can download that update at no additional charge.

My linux computer is basically my main machine, are most things in the vl6 repository in the vl 7 repo?

Is this alpha standard or soho type version?

Will I have to completely re-install once the 7.0 full release is out, or can I just upgrade relevant upgrades from gslapt?

I guess I mean, i don't want to have to setup my whole system AGAIN after this...

Also, my video card dosn't like the graphical install, does the text install still work on this version as it did in vl 6?

No the vl7 repo is just a baby, right now.

This alpha is for the standard version.

Yes you would.  So if you do decide to take the plunge I would hold of any extensive customization and stick with the vanilla, until the final release is out.

There is only a graphical installer at this stage.  No tui install. Graphical installer is improved, however.

Considering the amount of customization you have put in, you may consider holding off or thinking of a way to install to a free partition or a 2nd drive, leaving your existing system intact and dual booting.

Actually, I have getting my customizations redone down to a science now. I copy all my launcher icons to a directory called licons, my wallpapers to another dir, and so on. I just completely reinstalled my system to a blank drive, first copied all my stuff to usb pen drives, then installed and copied the dirs back. Just a few hours to get my system back to the super customized desktop, then a couple hours letting gslapt go install all the extras (Kept a text file of what I need)

My dosbox launchers and amiga stuff all works since its in the same place once copied back to my home dir.

Even still, I think I'll wait till the 7.0 standard is released... I just hope its not a long wait, and I hope the repos are all filled up nicely when vl7.0 official release is out... I've become quite used to alot of stuff in the vl6 repos. I'm really jonesing to work on learning cinellera...
