Hi,
I've ben using Linux since February 2007. I'm not an expert, but I at least can fend for myself (for the most part). I switched to Linux after many frustrations with Windows and Microsoft. I have not found many working Linux distros, but there are a select few that actually work.

I am the main webmaster for Ark Linux, a stable and well formed distro for non-technical users that retains the flexibility and power for veterans and hobbyists. I will, on occasion, use Yoper Linux and Debian.

I enjoy Linux, and am hoping to add Vector to my lineup because it is one of the only few that still has KDE 3. I find KDE 4 very unstable and lacking in some of the old KDE 3 features, and I'm not a fan of GNOME (it's a good desktop, but a bit too limiting in features and customizability).

Way Out In HyperSpace

Piki hello,

Mandriva 2010 spring has done an excellent job incorporating KDE 4 with that old KDE 3 feel and look. I used mandrake way back in the day, but it was always buggy, not a lot of good forum support, so I had to move on. But this offering IMO is their finest to date. Check it out.

Mandriva would have needed to do a lot of patching on their end to satisfy me. "Look and feel" is one thing, features and stability are another. They are what is keeping me from switching.

That said, when the KDE devs get their acts together and actually fix stuff, I'd be willing to switch. Adding some themes in the default tarballs to get the old KDE look and feel would be a plus, too (and perhaps the old KControl) ;-)
