I was a bit undecided on where to put this, but decided to stick it under "Hardware & Drivers" because it is related to hardware detection.
I am running a HP Pavilion dv4t-15000 laptop. At boot, the system will stop at "Performing Coldplugging" with a blinking cursor "_" right under that. The system will refuse to boot from there or respond to anything else except the power buttong (need to hold the power button for 4 to 5 seconds to power off). This happens every time without fail without passing "pci=assign-busses,routeirq" to the kernel at boot, and this is no guarantee (though it does work most times).
