When I started VL-4.8 I could configure my printer with no problems. When
I upgraded to VL-6-STD I never could get it to print since my 2 printers, one
Epson and one Brother connected to a USB port where never detected.

I then found that that VL-6-LIGHT does detect my printers and in order to
be able to print in VL-6-STD I had to install VL6LIGHT over VL-6-STD. That
worked well untill my HD conked-out.

With a new HD I decided to install VL-6-SOHO where to me surprise I could
configure both my printers. Unfortunately in VL6SOHO I cannot open the
office suite I am using, Applixware.

Installing VL-7-Alpha I have the same problem as with VL6, my printers are
not detected.  Since in VL7 I can open applixware I again, in order to be able
to print did install VL6-LIGHT over it, meaning no formating. The box looks
somewhat messy and not very desirable, however, I can access applix and
print.

I have reported on this printing problem of mine on several occasions with
no solutions offered so far.

There must be really something amiss in VL6 and now VL7 as for not finding
my USB ported printers. VL6SOHO and VL6LIGHT do find them.

I hope this problem will not force me to look for another distro. I really would
hate this.

I have read every one of them. The problem is the lack of information. There are
no comparisons from one version the next other than it does not work.

Have you compared dmesg, /var/log/messages, lsmod and lsusb? Without
any of that then solutions are difficult at best.

Applixware have you tried on the failed installs to run the app from the terminal?
That output would be helpful.

VL 7.0 is alpha even trying to consider using for a production system is not recommended.

Each version of Vector is built on its' own not from light to STD to SOHO, which is why any
output would help with a direction to go.

Looking for what in particular and then all from LIGHT, SOHO and VL7?

Yes in another post, here is the output

Applix office suite will not open in VL6SOHO.

I get:
Gdk-ERROR **: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
  serial 2474 error_code 8 request_code 62 minor_code 0

Please do not reply in a quote, it is hard to read.

Compare the output of all of them. You can output all of the text and use diff to compare
the files.

It appears that this is a gdk bug in Applixware. Between the versions you have mentioned there
is probably different gdk levels. Have you contacted them for any help?

The choice is to use stable working environments I have my primary Desktop that is currently 1 version
behind, due to it being the work machine. So either I install on another hdd or I use another machine for
testing.

Thanks Bigpaws!

In the meantime I was able to salvage my old working box VL6-STD from the defect HD
and resurrected it on another HD.

All is working properly and it feels so good to be home again. Smiley Smiley

I will follow your advice and stay with my solid VL6-STD until VL7 is released and if that one is then still
not discovering my USB attached printers I come back to the subject.

If you have the hardware, mirror your hard drive and take it offline.

That way you can rest easier if your primary drive fails. This is one
solution I use for some of my clients.

Tonerzone, please start a new thread with your problem.

First make sure that cups is running using vasm services.

Then try using cups by opening a browser and using this address:

localhost:631
