« on: January 29, 2011, 04:30:55 am »
Right now my hard drive is defective and non-functional.
I want to install VL to a flash drive and boot from it (like puppy linux).
Please guide me.

Odd why no responses to this request ?

A quick Web search found outdated VL install documentation

Presuming the desired version is not on a live CD w/alternate install Docs:
(The size of flash drive is critical)
ONE method would be - download ISO,  burn to disc,  boot & copy to flash

(Alternate - mount  flash drive, copy ISO -   de-compress ISO (via loop-back)  copy (dd?) expanded content)

Install boot-loader (grub/lilo) by  running (it's) install CLI

Much online help is available to above, as well as boot-loader specifics

E.G.  - boot-loader can be on flash - IF BIOS allows booting it
OR chain loaded from Cd,.floppy etal
Many alternatives to all above exist - choice is what seems easiest  within your present capabilities

Not to fret - help is @ fingertips - here or on Web

^ Remember -it's only software - no *permanent* damage can be done
The fun part is (should be) learning new things

NTIM -  many prefer to run any contemplated system first via liveCD.... assess, to get a "feel"
and  become familiar to Distro -variant specific things

 > Prior to committing to time/effort of install

Best luck

^ Crap w/re-thimks & tayepos, this is taking longer to explain than do
