The Vector development crew is proud to announce the beta2 testing cycle of VectorLinux 7.0. There have been numerous changes since the beta1 release. The kernel is version 2.6.38, glibc is 2.13  and everything else is up to date with Slackware-current. We have the new xfce-4.8.0 with 4.8.1 patches in place along with cairo-dock (now glx-dock), latest abiword, gnumeric, scribus, inkscape, shotwell and a vast array of other programs in all categories at their latest stable versions. We have tried to squash the major bugs that occurred during the first beta cycle which includes updates to the kernel, firefox, iptables, glx-dock, fluxbox, consolekit and added epdfview as default pdf file reader. We also added over 300 packages to the Vector 7 repository. Please give this a try and report problems or bugs to our forum site. You can download the beta2 iso from our official servers here:

Why not a live iso?
It will be excellent this 7 beta 2 in live mode to try without installing

Im posting from it. and i know that you all are probably tired of hearing about my old computer Smiley but the intel i915 video hardware im using freezes immediately with the versions of mesa libdrm and xf86-video-intel. If however i downgrade to the versions of those packages found in the first beta. i get X that works for a while. Thats mesa 7.1,  the i486 version of libdrm, and the 2.13 xf86-video-intel driver.

I just downloaded beta2 and stupidly accepted the default bootloader (grub).  now when I try to run it, all I get is "grub>."  Do I have to go through a complete reinstall to get lilo back?

Use the cd to boot into the system then run vliloconf as root.

That's alright, I ended up downloading the whole beta 2 iso.
It's just nice to have deltas, so that updating to a new version doesn't take too long. Smiley
