Hello,

I was trying to install something, and made the mistake of removing package gtk+2.12. It's removal took away a large number of useful things. (I installed some back).

One of the things I lost was the useful icons on the desktop that would show up when I inserted a flashdrive -- and the icon to unmount it.

Would you please remind me of what could be the name of the package that was in charge of that functionality?

I run
VL 6.0 Light Final built on March 31, 2009

I can't tell you what package that is but here is an easy way to find out.
At the command line type
nano /var/log/pkgtools
page down to the bottom and you'll see the last items to be added or removed from your system. Follow backwards chronologically and you should see all that was removed when gslapt when astray.

Thank you both. A promising package was pcmanfm, which I reinstalled. At the next reboot all was back to normal.
