You can do as stated in this link at that will get you libreoffice (pretty much the same just without the Oracle baggage.)

Theoretically, the script should work exactly the same for openoffice. I'll test it out and report back.

LibreOffice has been upgraded to version number 3.3.1 and there is no longer a download available at the address used by the script which started this thread.
###Edited for newest download available as of March 28th, 2011
I've now updated the script in both threads. These guys at LibreOffice are moving fast.  Unfortunately LibraOffice does not keep it's old links up.  This should be good for now.

Use this script instead.
For anyone who wants to take libreoffice for a spin, here is a simple bash script I use to download and install. Copy the script below to a text file save as NAME.sh and run as root... sh ./NAME.sh
Code: [Select]
#!/bin/bash
wget http://download.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/stable/3.3.2/rpm/x86_64/LibO_3.3.2_Linux_x86-64_install-rpm_en-US.tar.gz
tar xfv ./LibO*tar.gz
cd ./LibO_3*/
cd ./RPMS
rpm2tgz ./*rpm
installpkg ./*tgz
cd ./desktop*
rpm2tgz ./*freedesktop*rpm
installpkg ./*tgz
exit
