Hi i have tenda w311u usb wifi adapter. When i had Vector 6 , i downloaded driver from the Admin who modified it and it worked. The same driver doesnt work anymore.
does anyone have ralink rt2870sta . rt3070sta working in Vector 7 beta 2? plz help

I have rt2860sta working. No spesial effort on my part, since it's now part of the kernel.
Maybe your device is now supported as well. If not, check the staging drivers, since that's where 2860 was untill recent.

I also have the 2870 and I am having issues. Neither the classic KDE LiveCD or the 7 STD LiveCD even recognize my Ralink. Doesn't even see the device. If anyone has advice, please help. I have tried using the following commands: z
ifconfig usb0 up
dhcpcd usb0
ifconfig usb0 up give the ouput of no device found or error opening.
dhcpcd usb0 just sends me to a new line.

I appreciate the reply nightflier, however, all my attempts at doing things such as this, in the past, have been a failure. I cannot compile. Ever since getting this dang Ralink 2870, which of course was the wife making the purchase and was cheap, I have nothing but issues. But at this point it's the only thing that I have access to.
I hate wireless, but when the wife makes a decision, it stands. She was offered a 25$ a month deal and she took it and then canceled our Roadrunner service. This decision worked out great for her and our daughters, because they have laptops, but does not benefit me as I do not have a laptop. So, of course I am stuck using a USB wireless adapter.
I will just keep searching for an OS that works out of the box for me. I migrated away from Windows 98 to Ubuntu Warty, then to Fedora and have been running Fedora since Fedora 7. But I never learned how to compile and all attempts have been failures.
Anyways, thank you, but I guess I will keep looking for the OS that best works for me.

FrogDemon, Granted, VL6 is getting long in the tooth, but if you were to install a VL6 version to the hard drive, we could talk you through the procedure.

Ok, so if I install the VL6 with KDE classic, you could walk me through it? Ok, thank you. If you could post a tut for me here, I will get it installed and work my way through it.

These were the steps I took (as root). Add this line to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf: blacklist rt2800usb Download modified source code from here: http://cincinnatix.com/vectorlinux/nightflier/driver-rt2870_rt3070.tar.gzExtract the archive. Change to directory "RT2870_LinuxSTA_V2.3.0.0" run command "make && make install" Change to directory "DPO_RT3070_LinuxSTA_V2.3.0.2_20100412" run command "make && make install" reboot |

Well, that didn't work for me. I wiped my hdd and installed VL 6 KDE Classic. Followed your tut and I couldn't get the rt2800usb blacklisted. Not sure what I did wrong. So after reboot, still not finding the Ralink.
I am using a Fedora 15 livecd right now.

another option is to remove or delete the rt2800usb.ko file
it is here: /lib/modules/2.6.38.7/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/rt2x00/rt2800usb.ko
on VL7.0-RC2

I got a little frustrated last night over this, so I reinstalled VL KDE Classic, deleted ALL the wireless adapters and tried again. Same result, nothing. I know this should be an easy fix, but I am getting no where fast.
I will stick to Fedora for now and hopefully the stable release of 7 will work out of the box for me.

The adapter will not be named usb0. If you still have VL6 installed; as root, run /sbin/VLwifi. If the adapter is detected, this will give you the name of it (eth1, wlan, ra0 or whatever).
