I installed the updated pilot-link but still can't sync as user. I think something has changed since VL6 and I really don't know how to get the Clie working as user. I did sync when I started jpilot as root after a few fruitless tries. But when I try as user I get this:

I had changed permissions to read-write for everyone before I ran jpilot.

In VL6 you had to add this to a file in /etc/udev/rules.d:
KERNEL=="ttyUSB[13579]", SUBSYSTEMS=="usb", ATTRS{product}=="Palm Handheld",  SYMLINK+="pilot", GROUP="users", OPTIONS+="last_rule
"

It seems udev has changed in VL7 and this does not seem to work. So far it hasn't and I'm wondering how to get the darn Clie to work as user. This tip was posted in the VL Forum a long time ago:
"There is something down stream that is changing the owner and group of /dev/pilot -> /dev/ttyUSB1 -> tts/USB1 to root.  I never did find where it was happening. " The 05-local.rules in /etc/udev/rules.d is supposed to take care of that but it does not.

Does anyone know how to get a Clie or Palm Pilot working for a user under VL7? I have to run jpilot as root in order to see the information synced with my Clie.

Now changed to another wifi usb (ralink rt3370 chip,chip id:0x148f, 0x3370)with the laptop runing Vl7rc1,wifi can't work at all, no network....
then i tried the latest ralink official driver (2011_0407_RT3070_RT3370_RT5370_RT5372_Linux_STA_V2.5.0.bz2),

I had to jump through some hoops to get an ra3070 based usb wifi adapter working on my system:

Add these lines to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf:
blacklist rt2800usb
blacklist rt2870sta

Find the the modified code here:
http://cincinnatix.com/vectorlinux/nightflier/rt3070_driver_vl7.tar.gz

Untar the archive, change into the directory
"2011_0107_RT3070_RT3370_Linux_STA_v2.5.0.1_DPO"
run "make" and "make install", reboot and test.

tried the latest vlnvidia driver on "http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-7.0/kernels/drivers/vlnvidia-7.0-x86-1vl70.txz", installed,run "vxconf", TNT2 was found, chose "expert" mode , while legacy propertorir nvidia driver still can't compile successffully, then switched to NV open driverand it prompted some error (due to newer Xorg version than 1.4.1 on VL7rc1,) but ignoring should be fine just went straight to mcedit"/etc/X11/xorg.conf", changed driver as "nv" , reboot..TNT2 works now although it's 2D, sufficient for daily work and Mp4 video watch abit sluggy although so far..

Should I try latest kernel 2.6.38.6 to test nvidia legacy driver installation?

looks like the old nvidia driver is not compatible with new xorg.
we will have to wait to see if nvidia will patch it more.

I made an upgrade of all upgradables in one sweep.

Abiword is now properly opening .doc files with tables.

Some new programs were added like Dragon Player which does not want
to play any videos. Anyhow I need another player like a new hole in the head.
I see as well Juk and would not know what to do with it.

In exmh I still can't see and therefore open any mails.

Just checking printing and yes it looks like my previous printing setup is gone.
Will report on this when sorted out.
Was easy, cups was not started on boot. Will watch it on next boot. All printers working now.

smpeg don't need vlati as a dependency...maybe someone can fix that...

The latest is VL7 RC2.1. Maybe you can try it?

Best to get the latest 2.1 as hata_ph mentioned,,, link is in his quote above. However, you can run the vasm and "create" your old user, make sure to use the username exactly as you had it. When you are finished you can logout, and log into your username and it should be as it was.
