Yes. You need to add your user account to the sys group so that you can access. The device. This is done easily.
Code:
usermod -g sys your_user_name

thank you that worked. i can print in cups but but only when i add the printer in cups. i cant get it to print in HP Manager or cups if i add the printer in HP.  it gives me a error mesage and when i diagnos it it tells me the printer is not enabled but when i enable it still doesnt print.  on a side note when i try to set up the wireless it tells me that the usb is not pluged in.  but it is cause it just added the printer through the usb.

I got this same printer, it's an awesome piece of machinery, but unfortunately I had to use a winderz box to setup the wireless on it because it lacks an ethernet connection, so the wireless functions are configured by their software via the USB cable somehow.

[EDIT] Some ubuntu users report hplip having support for configuring the networking part of it.  I have not personally seen it. [/EDIT]

After it's setup, the thing works just fine from any linux, VL just picks it right up from the "printing" menu entry.

Wireless scanning is available using the devices web interface.

Make sure you are in the scanner group as well.
