VL 7.0 but add some KDE Classic stuff
« on: May 15, 2011, 08:34:32 am »

Hello all
I am running VL 7.0 on my laptop.  There are some things I would like to use that are not included with 7.0 mainly Konqueror 3.5.  This is in the KDE classic edition.  What would be the best way for me to add KDE 3.5 to VL 7.0?
The main reason I want this is to have a file manager that has a "find" function.  If you know of a better way to get a file manager that has a "find" function that would work also. But I do like konqueror so that would be my first pick.

So to give more information currently I am using enlightenment for my desktop.  And as an aside if anyone knows how to shut off desktop fliping when the mouse moves to the edge of the screen that would be a help also.  I have been unable to locate that function.

You will need at least kdebase and kdelibs.

Thank you for the link.

And if anybody else is using enlightenment and needs to stop desktop flipping when the mouse hits the screen edge I found where it needs to change is under settings->input->edge bindings.  You would think it would be under screen or multiple desktops but it's not.

I will convert the files listed in your link to tgz and install what I need.  Thanks for the help.

I have installed catfish and set up a Thunar custom action for it. It works very nicely for me. You could probably set it up as a Dolphin action on KDE4 as well, if you want. Here's the custom action for Thunar:

- The hard way:
edit ~/.config/Thunar/uca.xml and add the following before the last </actions>:
Code: [Select]
<name>catfish search</name>
<command>catfish --path=%F</command>
<description>search with catfish within current directory</description>
NOTE: Something I learnt the hard way: It's no use prettying up the code in uca.xml, as Thunar mucks it up again into a single long line the first time it uses it... >:(

- The GUI way:
In Thunar, select "Configure custom actions" on the Edit menu, click on the "+" icon to add a new action and fill in the blanks:
Name: catfish search
Description: search with catfish within selected directory
Command: catfish --path=%F

Appearance conditions:
File Pattern: *
Appears for: Directories
