The Vector development crew is proud to announce the second release candidate of VectorLinux 7.0. There have been numerous changes since the RC1 release. The kernel is version 2.6.38.7, glibc is 2.13  and everything else is up to date with Slackware-13.37. We have the new xfce-4.8.1 with glx-dock (previously cairo-dock), latest abiword, gnumeric, scribus, inkscape, shotwell and a vast array of other programs in all categories at their latest stable versions. Do to stability problems audacious has been replaced with umplayer.
We have squashed major bugs that occurred during the first RC cycle, which includes updates to the kernel, firmware, vasm, gdm, vector artwork, consolekit and some minor theme changes.  We have added the ability to build archlinux packages in slackware format in both the abs and aur with a special script unique to VectorLinux. We also added over 750 packages to the Vector 7 repository including latest kde4, gnome-2.3, lxde, and E17. Please give this a try and report problems or bugs to our forum site. There is now available a live cd version of the latest VectorLinux 7 release for those that want to "try before you buy". This is the last testing cycle so please we need as many testers as possible next release will be final.

You can download the VectorLinux 7.0 RC2 iso from our official servers here:

The live CD for VectorLinux 7.0 RC2 is here:

Cheers!!
Vec and all the crew................... :-D

The links for some reason didnt worked for me when I clicked on them. I had to erase the "http://" that i think it shouldn't be there.

Going to test the live version first.

Since it's bound to be asked:

Is there a 64bit version in the works? I think there's a really old alpha build, but how about one that could see the light of day.

Fixed the links... for some reason, the forum adds the http:// in front of the links.

cry_baby, when you test the live version, could you also test it's behaviour after install.  The live version is install-able but I think there still may be some kinks to iron out in that direction.

Installation will go something like what is shown here in this vl-light video.

Looks like LIVE is wanted more than the STD release.

I've been seeding these for the past 5 hours, already seeded 2.2GB for the LIVE image ... This is cool.

My torrent download stopped at 40%, and the computer has been on almost all day... Bad luck i guess. Ill try downloading the live version from the official servers and then ill try installing it. Hope it detects my wireless because I dont have a wired connection.

I just dl'ed and tested the Live CD, and to my surprise, samba sharing in Thunar just worked out of the box and easy as just "smb://192.168... " like it happens with GNOME/KDE. I must admit that for my entire time of using Linux, I have tried many DEs but had to stick with GNOME/KDE for this reason (I know how to mount with smb but I'm too lazy and for some various reasons too, that I need sharing "just works"). This sharing thing didn't work when I checked out Salix Xfce 13.37 (another Slackware-based)

Btw, the top menu bar is blurred & greyed-out while not doing anything, is it on purpose or is it a bug? And is there a way to install the (Libre) Office suite?

Many thanks to the team for your hard work, I think I can finally move on to my very first permanent Xfce distro  Grin

EDIT: Ehm, sorry if I post in the wrong place instead of the other thread about bug report/suggestions, please feel free to move this post there if you want

Trying to load the torrent for Std. version gives an error in Transmission: cannot load corrupt torrent.  Guess I'll just use the direct download.
