Bonjour

Pls. load "idnkit" package to Vl7 mirror , otherwise nslookup won't work

Packaged and uploaded to testing repositories. Don't know how quickly it will hit the mirrors though. Depends on the rsync schedule.

Netbook ? Can't find HP-2133 on this website.

What would you call it? Notebooks of that size are called netbooks.

There is a full review on that Web site. Scroll down. The review starts several screens down.

VECTORLINUX 7.0 LIVE RC2

Unable to make a wireless Internet connection in netbook HP-2133. Sad

I see that in wicd-client for wireless connection eth0 was changed to wlan0 in
this release yet I can't connect. Changed settings in rc.inet1.config for wlan0
(copied rc.inet1.conf.new) and disabling all eth*
then running 'rc.inet1 start' I get in ifconfig eth2, Huh however, no ip-address.

I have found that /sbin/VLwifi is good at identifying wireless adapters. Once it finds it I cancel the rest and plug that value into wicd.

Also, specifying "no network" during install works, as wicd handles it.

Live on RC2 Live. ThinkPad R51 with ipw2200 wifi. uptime 2:48

Unclear on why the wifi has to be configured as eth2 in wicd to get a connection. Usually eth1. Default at boot is wlan0. Perhaps some investigation required here? The dread udev rules need twiddling? Wlan0 usually seems to relate to broadcom or ralink hardware. Intel invariably eth1 in my experience.

More critically, just tried to plug in a usb stick. Thunar says 'Error creating moint [sic] point: No such file or directory.' That should be 'mount' surely? Devil in details. Profi look.

Anyway, unless I am wrong, this is a SHOW STOPPER. I mean, sheesh. Afraid there seems to be something terribly wrong here. User must be able to attach a volume. Something up with Thunar? User permissions? Agh. Will have another look tomorrow.

Bonjour!

VL7 STD RC2 installation on old  amd 1500xp cpu driven Sharp mebuis laptop went smoothly.

while ar9271 based USB wifi card(ID 0cf3:9271 Atheros Communications, Inc. AR9271 802.11n) and ralink 3370 based wifi usb can't work at all , Hope new kernel  with built-in driver to "ath9k_htc" and "rt2870" mode would be loaded to VL7 mirror soon.

a ralink driver package is here: http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-7.0/kernels/drivers/ralink_driver-2870_3070_2.6.38.7-i586-1vl70.txz
please test it and let us know if it works for you

That eth2 should have triggered my brain. Well it did very early tnis morning. Booted the live
changed in wicd-client wlan0 to eth2 and here I am sending this post out from HP-2133. Grin

Just wondering what wrong setting in wicd-client it will be on the next release? Wink

No problems so far with VL7 Standard RC2 on the Sempron. Today I installed RC2 on the Athlon 64. I  could  not use "auto" to guess the correct monitor resolution for installation, nor could I use 1280x1024. They caused loss of the  monitor and a "Not Optimum Resolution" or some such message that necessitated a power shutoff and reboot. I had to use 1024x768. The "auto" option did work on the Sempron.

Once VL was installed, I went with the "no xorg" option and it worked to get the correct 1280x1024 resolution and ATI video.

I've installed quite a few repo packages and they have been fine on preliminary testing.

Out of time for further testing until Sunday.

As with RC1, cups does not recognize my HP Laserjet 6mp or my HP Laserjet 4 MPlus on any usb port.

As with RC1, on shutdown, VL7 goes into an endless loop, repeating something like "Warning:  all config files need conf: /etc/modprobe.d/sound it will be ignored in a future session" with a "stopping firewall" thrown in every once in a while.  Have to turn it off physically.  Perhaps is related to linphone, which I am using now that the evil empire bought skype.  libosip2 and libeXosip2 are required for linphone, in addition to speex, which comes installed.  I started to install libosip2 and libeXosip2 on gslapt but, if I recall, gslapt would in both cases have deleted 9 files (mplayer, etc).  So I installed libosip2 and libeXosip2 from slackbuilds.  I used linphone on RC1 as well, and, as mentioned, got a similar endless loop on shutdown.

My machine information is at bottom of post.

Had a similiar problem, it seemed that the drivers where ok, but wicd wouldn't show any wireless connection until I changed wlan0 to eth2. I chagend that just for trying, I dont know how it worked. Im running vector from a HP 2025, im also happy that distros are finally adding the drivers for this broadcom's wifi cards.

Every thing else seems to work fine. I'm running in a live usb, and i suppose it's a 32 bit vector linux, are there any 64 bit version? Don't know if there will be a big difference between 32 and 64 bit for daily tasks.

VL7-STD-RC2

Did some testing and unfortunately all froze. Huh
Here are some results:

-- Trying to mount a pendrive a window opens telling I am not authorized.

-- xkill does not seem to work. Giving the command nothing happens untill Ctrl-C

-- xsetroot -solid color & is not acted on. Is that unique to xfce4 now?
I wanted to change that to me depressingly dark background of VL7.

-- exmh mail program still does not show the mail in folders, however,
indicates how many there are in. In a similar to VL7 slackware distro 13.37
this  is not the case. So I assume it is VL7 related.

Then all hang. Possibly HD problem.

VL7-LIVE-RC2

-- On booting one gets 7 times the error to change {SYSFS} to {ATTR} in /lib/udev/rules.d/56-hpmud_support.rules

-- To set-up printing one has to change the blank password first since cups does not accept the blank

-- Menu-System-Manage_Printing opens http://localhost:631 as 404 Not Found. One has to add /admin and it opens.

VL7-LIVE installed

Installation went smooth. After booting got some messages about wicd not working or so.
Did as su: "wicd start" and Internet connected to eth1.

Audio CD not playing with gnome-player: Failed to open cdda://sr0/Track%201.wav.

Playing with mplayer and the 2 UMplayer.
Xine opens and disappers.

Trying to mount USB pendrive I get: Error creating moint point: No such file or directory

Yes, alsa was working w/o me doing anything exept adjusting the volumes in alsamixer.

Printers found and printing after changing root password.

Further testing will follow.

skype working with usb camera as "microphone" w/o me helping. That is
in VL7-Live sound settings just work with alsa and usb-webcam.

On second boot no more wicd error message. Internet was just connected.

I start really liking this version of VL7.
