Seems there is a problem with the vasm module that changes keyboard layout. specifically
/sbin/vxkbset.  Going to have to take a long look at this, but even though it's bash it uses some coding I have not seen before. So I may need some help.

On the other hand there are some other ways to accomplish what you want to do.
As Pita has mentioned just use "setxkbmap gb"  or right click on the xfce-panel choose add new items and keyboard layouts.
I was able to switch successfully to a gb layout doing that as well.

Except this keyboard-applet does not behave correctly as I have reported on this thread. It kind of switches back on its
on will.

Can someone else please try to change the keyboard to a UK one as I have done, and see whether or not it works?
If it does I'll just assume it's my computer that's at fault.

I booted into VL7-LIVE and on a terminal gave the command "setxkbmap gb" and the KB was changed to UK.
Characters on US KB \ | " ' @ #  became  ~ # @ ' " £ . I don't know how you set the KB map. I just make a small script
with above command. Put it in a launcher on the panel. I work with 3 maps, us, de and fr and can change them that way
easily. If the given command works on your computer and you use only the gb map I suggest to put it into /etc/rc.d/rc.local.
My computer is an old desktop PC.

Thanks for the tip. I typed in "set xkbmap gb" and the keyboard map changed to a gb one just as I hoped!

Cheers,

CP .

Bonjour!
still expecting the release of RC3,so far  RT2870 based wifi usb still not working with the driver in VL7 mirror, only had to resort to driver from Ralink company web site....
additional, hyuandai web cam usb does work with latest skype  beta 2.2.0.35, but mic signal very very weak no matter how adjust volume/or setting alsamixer, also no ringing tone can be heard as well....
here's hyuandai web cam device id:
-----------------------
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 05e3:1205 Genesys Logic, Inc. Afilias Optical Mouse H3003
-----------------------
ANYONE CAN SUGGEST A FEW TOOLS TO TAKE PHOTOS/VIDEO WITH THIS WEB CAM? AS VLC NO LONGER BEING SUPPORTED BY VL7 AND CAN'T BE INSTALLED...

I could have sworn I saw a follow-up post from you indicating that you had implemented 'maxcpus' and removed 'idle=poll', but I'm not seeing it now. Was it another thread or was it pruned from this bug thread? Moderated? Deleted by you? Or am I just crazy and I never really saw it Shocked

I think I did post a very short message saying I added maxcpus=1 and removed idle=poll. I don't see it, though. I *think* it was in this thread but maybe I made a mistake and put it somewhere else.

Anyway, I did not have keyboard/mouse lockups with maxcpus=1 but I don't feel I ran it long enough to be confident that it fixed things as idle=poll did.

I made a big change today when I removed the GeForce video card from the Sempron and put it in the Athlon 64. I haven't yet started the computers to see how the change went.
--GrannyGeek

BONJOUR!

Pls. try editing your /etc/lilo.conf, adding following line:
---------------
append="idle=pool"
append="maxcpus=1"
---------------
you 'll get much more stable and fast laptop/PC  , runing a few  days non stop....pas de problem a tous

Posting from Live RC2. Just wondering whether the problem with user vl mounting a usb flash drive has been resolved? 'Error creating moint [sic] point: No such file or directory'. Haven't seen anything here indicating this has been fixed. It is a bit of a SHOW STOPPER imho.

For something slightly different, I see reference to a Light alpha on Distrowatch. Is this a secret project? Just wondering why it doesn't seem to be mentioned in these forums, or have I missed something?

Not secret, just not ready for public testing yet. PM me if you want more details.

What errors are you getting installing VLC? Please double check you have 'extra repository enabled in gslapt'

Suspend may need attention.  It works fine so far as suspending, battery saving, etc is concerned, and if one unsuspends pretty quick, it unsuspends fine.  However, if this machine is suspended for a long time (e.g. an hour or two), on "unsuspend" (pushing power button) it comes up OK but the GUI is not active and the computer doesn't work.  So I do something like cntrl-alt-backspace (or delete, I forget) and it logs out of the GUI, whereupon I can then log in normally and it works fine.  I do this often as it is faster than a reboot. But it would be nice if it came out of a long suspend into a workable GUI.

Why not try twinkle or ekiga?  Now that Gates owns skype, best to make the move now rather than later.

Hi, have had a look at Light Alpha 4, seems promising. BUT! a usb stick attached is ignored by PCManFM. What have you guys got against flash drives? (well aside from Stuxnet . . .  Undecided/ ) dmesg shows the stick being recognised but the gui doesn't want anything to do with it afaict.

Interestingly I was able to play a DVD using an external optical drive attached via USB. Still no sign of a volume being mounted, but VLC was able to play the disc once pointed at the drive, in this case sr1.

Running lshal results in a message saying hald is not running by the way.

Anyway, guess that's enough LA4, but as there is no thread for it so far, comments here.

Will list machines I have run RC2 on in next day or 2 in case that is of interest.

Bonjour!
still expecting the release of RC3,so far  RT2870 based wifi usb still not working with the driver in VL7 mirror, only had to resort to driver from Ralink company web site....
additional, hyuandai web cam usb does work with latest skype  beta 2.2.0.35, but mic signal very very weak no matter how adjust volume/or setting alsamixer, also no ringing tone can be heard as well....
here's hyuandai web cam device id:
-----------------------
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 05e3:1205 Genesys Logic, Inc. Afilias Optical Mouse H3003
-----------------------
ANYONE CAN SUGGEST A FEW TOOLS TO TAKE PHOTOS/VIDEO WITH THIS WEB CAM? AS VLC NO LONGER BEING SUPPORTED BY VL7 AND CAN'T BE INSTALLED...

A BIEN TOT

The device shown here does not appear to be a webcam, a quick google seems to indicate it's a
Sunbeam Tech X-1300 Gaming Mouse.
Do you have an lsusb readout on your webcam?
