Hmm... I started using VL4.3, that would put us somewhere in 2004. I didn't join in the community until I was hooked on VL5.0 SOHO, which brings us to early 2005. So far I've been through two or three forum changes. Time flies when you're having fun.

I started with VL4 (my first experience with linux was SuSE 9.1) and got hooked to Vector with 5.0. I've had it on at least one PC ever since.

Well I'm a relative newbie at only 3-1/2 years with Vector. I had only been introduced to Linux about 6 months earlier (Ubuntu). Only reason I gave Linux a shot to begin with was to avoid having to run virus protection all the time. I found Linux in general to be fascinating. Hell, I thought the idea of opensource was fascinating. Vector just happened to be the fastest distro I could find. Didn't make my first post on the forum for about 6 months, but I read everything I could and I was always impressed by how considerate the discourse was. Really a great group of people here.

I think I first started using VectorLinux in 2001 or 2002. I know it was version 2.0 or 2.5. I joined the forum soon after I started using VL because my ignorance was monumental and I had lots of how-to questions. Of course, that was several forums ago. VectorLinux 4.3 was the version that truly got me hooked and VectorLinux has been my main OS for at least three years. --GrannyGeek

Date Registered: October 30, 2008, 10:18:24 pm When I first started with Linux I had some pretty old hardware and I needed something light that would run well on that old hardware. I joined soon after installing Vector 5.9.1 and finding that my network card wasn't working. Once I plugged it in correctly, it worked fine . I've learned a lot from being here, and I really like the community.

Registered for the forum in September 2006 - didn't relaise it had been nearly five years! I remember that I tried Vector a couple of times as a dual boot with XP before I finally bit the bullet and reinstalled 5.9 alone. It took me a few weeks to find substitutes for all the Windows programs I used to use but I haven't looked back since. It's nice to see lots of familiar names on the forum and feel a connection, even though we never meet face to face. Or... do some members actually meet up in person? Andy

The forum says: "Date Registered: July 23, 2006, 10:17:03 pm" But I think it was closer to mid-2005.
I'm wondering how well the forum joined date relates to when we really joined the community. I recall starting to use VL in the 5.0/5.0.1 SOHO days and probably joined the forum shortly thereafter which puts the date somewhere around March-April 2005. I have a feeling that one of the hacked forums was unrecoverable such that most everyone had to re-register, or that when we switched from phpbb to smf that the admins were unable to move over the user database such that we had to re-register. I'd safely put the date I joined the VL community back in mid-2005. Below are a few release dates from older VL versions that helped me place the date.
VectorLinux 4.0: 2003-10-08 VectorLinux 4.3: 2004-09-19 VectorLinux 5.0 SOHO: 2005-02-22 VectorLinux 5.0.1 SOHO: ~2005-03-25 VectorLinux 5.1 Standard: 2005-07-27 VectorLinux 5.1 SOHO: 2006-01-20 VectorLinux 5.8 Standard: 2006-12-18 VectorLinux 5.8 SOHO: 2007-05-17

I registered with this forum April, 2008....but I had been using Vector for some time before that. (Don't know for how long). I think it was version 5.9 that got me really hooked.

Newt is right. We've had to re-register for the forum at least once and probably more than once. We had some hacking problems that destroyed everything in years past.
I have some forum messages from 2002 that I printed out and keep in my Linux notebook. --GrannyGeek

I have been reading the forums and using various Vectors since before VL 4.0 so probably something like 7 years... Been using Linux for about 10 years - Mandrake was my first serious one, but others like BLAG, Lycoris and Libranet - will try loads of others but Vector is my home.

I joined up when I installed VL 4.0. Unfortunately, this is our 3rd Forum since then, IIRC, and I never kept backups of my posts...
