Just had a new experience: a fresh install of Mac OSX. No software key or activation, good. Will not complete unless you give full name, address and a valid telephone number, not good!

Seriously! Tried some bogus phone numbers, but it would not be fooled. So I lied, entered my work info, probably opened myself up to legal action by Apple.. hope they don't call and check up on it, because Mr. Web Surfer will not be available.  Cheesy

Yet, people "miss" Steve Jobs.  He was every bit as bad as Gates, but had a snappier wardrobe.

I can understand if you are going to have a closed source system then have the hardware and the software locked down entirely and restricted.  Macs do "just work".  The user experience for a novice is far better than Windows on a PC.  However a completely locked down system does remove any freedom you may have had with respect to your machine.  They are a better "windows" than Windows in that respect.

My friend has an older mac....probably 3 -5 years old or so.  Do you think latest VL7 release candidate might work?  I would be in trouble if not as i don't think she has the disks to reinstall.  And I know nothing of Mac, except that her machine is old enough that it won't do some things.  In particular, it would not install google voice (or google talk...I forget which) this summer.
