OLD VL version autologin question
« on: September 30, 2011, 04:28:56 pm »

Hello, everyone... LONG time, no see!

I have an old laptop that still has Vector on it... I think it's VL4 - the kernel is 2.6.12 -

and I'm going to be setting it up as a computer for a food bank. I need to be able to have a volunteer just turn on the power button, and have it login, and automatically run the address book program by itself.

Do I tweak /etc/inittab to enable a console login? (I'm not going to have them use X for the program.) If so, how do I enable auto-login for the console?

I think I can just put the program I want to start in rc.local or something like that, so I'm not worried about that part.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

have a look at /etc/rc.d/rc.A

it may point you in the right direction
