I have VL6.0-STD running great on my Acer laptop for well over a year now, and it's set up just the way I like it. I've upgraded and installed quite a few programs/apps since the install. I've installed VL 7.0 on a smaller partition, and I really like it, so now I'm wanting to upgrade my VL 6.0 partition to 7.0. Looking through this section of the forum, I see that I'm not able to do a clean upgrade from VL6.0 to VL7.0. I use gslapt to upgrade/install MOST apps. What file keeps track of all apps that are installed? Is there any easy way to compare that file to the one in VL7.0 to see what I need to install? (Well, I know it won't be easy, since there are 100's of files installed...). I don't really want to spend hours and hours upgrading and installing programs and setting up things if I install VL 7.0. But I don't want to stay with 6.0 for another couple of years either...

Any help or advise will be appreciated.

Vector Linux has never had a facility for in place upgrades.  Most distros that do have a fair number of problems with such upgrades at one time or another.  My advice:  backup, wipe, install.  Sorry, I know that isn't the answer you wanted.

caitlyn - Yeah, I was afraid that's what I'd have to do... At least I'm already one step ahead - I do regular backups!

Look at it this way:  now at least the final release is out.  You don't need to do the Release Candidate.  Cheesy
