hata_ph has built a new Sendmail package for VectorLinux 7.0.

Code:
sendmail: sendmail (mail transfer agent)
sendmail:
sendmail: Eric Allman's mail transport agent. The _Unix System Administration
sendmail: Handbook_ calls sendmail 'The most complex and complete mail delivery
sendmail: system in common use...'
sendmail: Ready-made configuration files are included for systems connected by
sendmail: TCP/IP (with or without a nameserver) and for systems using UUCP.
sendmail: The procmail package is required to handle local mail delivery.
sendmail:
sendmail: License: Refer to LICENSE
sendmail: Authors: http://www.sendmail.com/sm/open_source/
sendmail: Website: http://www.sendmail.com/sm/open_source/

After testing this package please stop back here and let us know how it works for you.

hata_ph I've had to drop sendmail down to the testing level.  Seen a couple reports in odd spots on the forum.

Installed sendmail, testing it I get the following error:

 /usr/sbin/sendmail: Exec format error
"/home/user/dead.letter" 9/211
. . . message not sent.

ls -l /usr/sbin/sendmail
-r-xr-sr-x 1 root smmsp 0 Dec  2 11:10 /usr/sbin/sendmail*

Uninstalled, reinstalled, same error.

Code:
/etc/rc.d/init.d
root:# ./sendmail start
Starting Sendmail...........                                         [  OK  ]
/etc/rc.d/init.d
root:# ./sendmail status
sendmail is not running

It can't run since /usr/sbin/sendmail has 0 size.

Ok...it seem the slackbuild that I based on slackware-current's own slackbuild is not working in VL7.
I have build sendmail-8.14.5 which i get it from archlinux...pls try it once it is available in the testing repo....

Installed the new sendmail and basically it is working except the mail will not go out:  Huh

Code:
cat /var/log/maillog
..../....
Dec  4 16:23:19 smartbro sendmail[2993]: pB48NIRW002993: to=maonot@operamail.com, ctladdr=heisspf (1000/1000), delay=00:00:01, xdelay=00:00:01, mailer=relay, pri=30257, relay=[127.0.0.1] [127.0.0.1], dsn=2.0.0, stat=Sent (pB48NIKY002994 Message accepted for delivery)
Dec  4 16:23:58 smartbro sendmail[3006]: gethostbyaddr(192.168.*.***) failed: 1
Dec  4 16:29:34 smartbro sendmail[3118]: gethostbyaddr(192.168.*.***) failed: 1

Will try to figure that one. Status=sent yet it failed. Another Huh  or Cheesy.
That's not funny at all. Wink

Ok...me no good in sendmail so I may need some time in testing how to use it...let u know once i got any update Tongue

EDIT...

Ok...make sendmail-8.14.4 v2 (follow the slackware way) and it work with mailx out of the box...
but you need to make /etc/rc.d/rc.sendmail executable first by running chmod +x /etc/rc.d/rc.sendmail as root...then follow below way to use mailx

Quote
Type "mailx -s Subject email@address.com" (without quotes, replacing "Subject" with the message subject and "email@address.com" with the email address).
Press "Enter." Then type your message.
Press "Ctrl"+"D" to send your email.

you can double check /var/log/maillog to see the sendmail message log...

PS: if you are using the sendmail-8.14.5 that i build, pls removepkg it and installpkg sendmail-8.14.4 v2

EDIT: There is no more sendmail-8.14.4 v2...just install sendmail-8.14.4 v1 from gslapt/slapt-get...for those who already install my previous build...pls remove all the sendmail and reinstall it again from gslapt/slapt-get...sorry for the confusion...
