flip city,

You may need to update.  I just found and installed arpon and libdnet from the vector repositories.  I still don't know why I did so or what to do with arpon.

John

Hi john,
I updated. I can't answer why you installed it, but the what of the matter can be explained if you click on the link to arpon in the first post of this thread. That should give you an idea as to arpon's purpose and capabilites. Hope it is appropriate for your needs.

Hi vincent2,
At the moment, I cannot tell if arpon is running. From my previous experience with it on a debian system it had a config file that was modified to enable it at startup. However I don't see that with this one 2.7.
So .... what if anything needs to be modified to enable arpon at startup.

Hi hata_ph
I have modified the /etc/arpon.conf file to my needs.
What i would like to to is to have the shell script to start at bootup. What do I need to do to enable that ??

Some piece of syntax eludes us. I added /etc/rc.d/rc.arpon start to /etc/rc.d/rc.local file, however I cannot detect a running arpon process. Used ps ax | grep arpon. ????

Is there a particular log file to check? and; I've looked at messages, syslog, and found nothing concerning arpon.

Is the arpon init script executable? If not you would have to prepend "sh" to your line in rc.local, or chmod +x the arpon init script

Install arpon from gslapt at a fresh VL7 gold and i add the command to rc.local and arpon auto load at boot time

Quote
#!/bin/sh
# rc.local
# This file is provided for custom initialisation because
# Admin is not encouraged to touch rc.S or rc.M.
#
# This file is launched on the end of entering multi user mode (2-5)
# load functions
. /etc/rc.d/functions-display

PATH="/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:$PATH"
# Setting up Linux logo text
if [ "$INSTALL_DATE" ]; then
   linux_logo -c -t "Operating since $INSTALL_DATE" > /etc/issue
else
   linux_logo -c -t "Brought to you by Vector-Linux" > /etc/issue
fi

## Setting up remote login message
echo "Welcome to $HOSTNAME. Unauthorized access is prohibited !" > /etc/issue.net

## Setting login message
if [ -f /etc/vector-version ]; then
    echo "`head -n1 /etc/vector-version` on `uname -a | cut -d\  -f1,3`" > /etc/motd
else
    echo "Vector Linux on `uname -a | cut -d\  -f1,3`" > /etc/motd
fi

/sbin/vcpufreq-loader.gambas
## Vector Linux initialisation is very fast ...
## So uncomment this if you want to enjoy the show a bit longer
#sleep 5

## You may add custom initialisation below this

# Start vboxadd
# If you do not wish this to be executed here then comment it out,
# and the installer will skip it next time.
if [ -x /etc/rc.d/rc.vboxadd ]; then
    /etc/rc.d/rc.vboxadd start
fi

# Start vboxadd-service
# If you do not wish this to be executed here then comment it out,
# and the installer will skip it next time.
if [ -x /etc/rc.d/rc.vboxadd-service ]; then
    /etc/rc.d/rc.vboxadd-service start
fi

# Start vboxadd-x11
# If you do not wish this to be executed here then comment it out,
# and the installer will skip it next time.
if [ -x /etc/rc.d/rc.vboxadd-x11 ]; then
    /etc/rc.d/rc.vboxadd-x11 start
fi

# start rc.arpon at boot time
/etc/rc.d/rc.arpon start

Thank you my lords, rbistolfi and hata_ph.
I did not have the arpon.conf as executable and my modification of the same file rendered it  useless.
i have corrected these areas (chmod +x /etc/arpon,conf) as # AND adding (# start rc.arpon at boot time
/etc/rc.d/rc.arpon start) lines as # to the /etc/rc.d/rc.local  script and now have arpon running as desired from boot.
