I've just recently got going with Vector Linux 7 and it looks pretty good and runs pretty good on an old IBM T21.

However, I tried using rdate to update the clock. It fails,
Code:
root:# rdate tick.usno.navy.mil
rdate: Could not connect socket: Connection timed out
Ok, I tried telnetting to port 123 but there's no telnet installed.
Ok, I try netcat / nc - not installed.
Ok, try Gslapt neither of those available, try ntpdate, that's not available.

Is there something I'm missing? I tried updating gslapt. is there another repository I should add besides what was installed by default? It's funny all I wanted to at this point was sync my clock  Undecided

Thanks.

Thanks hata_ph - you helped me get wifi working and now this  Grin

Is there something that I need to do to add the testing repository?

Cheers.

P.S. I tried at least 4 different hosts with rdate and they all failed.

With the same error message? If so, check your firewall to ensure port 123 is open.

Update the other posts.

ntpdate works fine with the hosts that rdate doesn't. Thanks.
