I suspect that spamming has something to do with the restrictions imposed on sending mail.

Instead of sendmail, I use the command line email client "sendEmail". It uses your ISP, or any other mail service you have access to. Sending mail this way makes it far less susceptible to being marked as spam along the way.

Just extract and run, no compiling needed.
Nice little program for use in automated scripts.

but email client "sendEmail" is a bit old, latest version written in 2009, no updated snapshot version there.
while sendemail's a more established tool, updated regularly still, security flaw fix more availble.

You aren't going to find an open relay that isn't blacklisted. You can thank the spammers for that. Try 465 (SSL) or 587 (TLS).

msmtp maybe a better smtp smart host vs trying to send using sendmail due
to port problems. Also even though you can send email reverse DNS will not
work since port 25 is blocked.

You need to recompile sendmail

There is no sendmail.mc at least I did not find any.

You need these options for a smarthost:

define(`SMART_HOST',`relay:your.relay.system.com')dnl
define(`RELAY_MAILER',`esmtp')dnl
define(`RELAY_MAILER_ARGS', `TPC $h 587')dnl

Change the port as needed.

Running your own mail server is not a trivial task.

Free smtp relay services are not easy to find, but you may have some luck trying one of these: http://www.ameir.net/blog/archives/27-Free-mail-relay-servers.html

There are commercial relay services you can subscribe to.

Do you actually want to run a SMTP mail server, or are you simply trying to send emails from command line and other interfaces? There are binary-compatible drop-in replacements for sendmail if all you want to do is send.

Sendmail is not an easy beast to use. It takes weeks to grasp
it.

You compile the .mc file to make the .cf file, which
is what sendmail reads.

Mail is not something to mess up on since a poorly
configured mail server can slow down your ISP. Which
would probably get you banned.

If you are really interested this should get you a start:
