How do I set either   Shotwell Photo Viewer   OR   Geeqie     as the photo viewer to open  .jpg files when they are clicked, INSTEAD OF  GIMP?

Right click the picture and select properties...you can set the default open with program there Smiley

Thank you for the solution.   So simple, yet so elusive.  It didn't make conceptual sense, at least for me, that setting the viewer via one  .jpg  file would apply universally.
