Hi
I really like my VL7Light install with fluxbox added and customized. I am wondering if it is possible to create a bootable live cd of the install using the mklivecd scripts from the std live cd. I attempted to customize the std live cd running, then make a custom live from it but the resulting iso was not useable. Ultimately I was wanting to make bootable usb's of the system and use them as  stocking stuffers but do not think I will get that far.

any ideas on how to make a bootable custom live cd or usb of vector

Thanks for any
Cheers

grab the live tools pkg here: http://ftp://ftp-osl.osuosl.org/pub/vectorlinux/Uelsk8s/LIVE/vl-live-tools-1.1-i586-1vl70.txz
install the pkg and run vmklive as root

post back here your results

Sounds like fun but the link is not found...not working Smiley
edit : oops...got it, thanks will try

edit: Ok. that did some damage, lol, had to reinstall

I installed via installpkg and ran as root
it gave a couple errors and stopped at base/usr.xzm
after a couple of hours of it sitting there I closed the window and shut down.

on reboot I had several issues, xorg, wicd, gslapt. the error messages I saved were lost to the reinstall.

one was warning can't open etc/fstab no file or directory and one about bootsplash 640x480.cfg no such file or directory, this prior to list of compressed images starting with base/etc.xzm and ending in base/user and hanging
cheers

here is the install via terminal
Code:
root:# installpkg vl-live-tools-1.1-i586-1vl70.txz

.-----.-----------------------------------------------------------------------.
| 1/1 | Installing vl-live-tools-1.1-i586-1vl70.txz                           |
'-----'-----------------------------------------------------------------------'

| Based Largely on the Excellent linux-live scripts                           |
| from linux-live.org                                                         |

'-----------------------------------------------------------------------------'

Executing install script for vl-live-tools-1.1-i586-1vl70...
ln: failed to create symbolic link `root/.vmklive/initrd/posixovl/usr/src/posixovl-0.996/README': No such file or directory

this I wrote on paper while waiting as copy paste was not available in the mklive window
Code:
warning can't open etc/fstab: no such file or directory
/etc/bootsplash/themes/current/config/bootsplash-640x480.cfg: no such file or directory

creating compressed images
base/etc.xzm
/etc mtab
base/home.xzm
continues
    /lib
    /opt
    /root
    /usr
after base/usr.xzm it sat idle, I waited for a couple of hours then closed the windows and shut down the laptop

one issue was a dbus error in wicd , it would not connect and closed saying to restart but restart was not working correctly, lost the var log when reinstalling forgot to copy. another was two purple side by side images like screens full of text in the bottom two quarters of the screen. these flashed between the boot screen and login screen when logging in or out.

edit: could try again on my test box, it is a bit messy with added programs but can reinstall there...wondered if the install error would suggest I have a bad copy first though
cheers

that install error shouldnt cause you any trouble.
I would estimate 6 hours or more to make a livecd on your laptop, so expect it to take a while.
