Where is X?
« on: January 07, 2012, 08:22:52 am »
I am pretty sure that the X server is missing, as I have absolutely no GUI when I log in to my VL installation.  I tried to set it up with the vasm thing, but the only option for an X server is the one that has a d and says other or something like that.

Is there a way I can install X from the CD after the rest of my installation has completed, or do I have to connect to the internet and use something like apt-get?

The X server should have been installed by default.

Which version and how did you do the installation.

I installed the latest as of this writing: Vector linux Gold Standard 7.0

I already had a home partition on the hard drive I installed it to, so I just set it to use that as the /home.  Other than that the installation was pretty standard (full install).

uh oh...  Do you think VL got confused by my other linux version's openbox-related files on the home partition?

Take a look at /var/log/Xorg.0.log for any information about
failures.

You may need to do that as root.

Actually, that file doesn't exist.

Like I said, it looks like X doesn't exist at all.
