Happy Holidays from the Vector Linux development team.  Smiley

VL 7.0 Light Beta 1 is now available for download:
Md5sum: 671f1c94c9589e2179022badaec58801

Light is built on the same foundation as Standard. It is a full, traditional Linux system with all development tools included. One of the “traditional” elements is a classic text install procedure. It is aimed at those with some previous Linux experience, and those who are willing to learn.

On top of this solid base you get a choice of four work environments. For the minimalists, there is JWM without any bells or whistles. This is also a good starting point for those who like to assemble their own custom system. This can be done by adding packages from our repository, or building your own. Next step up is IceWM with PCManFM-mod handling desktop and file management. bundled with some select lightweight applications. Those used to VL 6.0 Light will find it comfortingly familiar. Adding a little more weight and automation gives you the next level, with PCManFM and more complex programs. And finally, there is the full LXDE software suite. This desktop environment keeps up with the times, while maintaining a user interface that many of us have grown accustomed to over the years.

Including all this choice and flexibility does increase the size of the image, but we feel that it is a good trade-off. Current size is 600 MB.

Brave testers are invited to report their findings in this thread:
