Tvtime help please.

I am new to Vector Linux 7.0 (January 9th, to be exact), and I have been trying since then, to get it to work right with my SAA7130 tuner card,. I have been directed to web sights that do a good job of explaining what changes I would need to make, but the problem with that is that those web sights do nothing to explain how to go actually go about making those changes, such as where on my computer I would find the files that I need to change in the first place (I installed it using the Gslapt Package Manager). I think that I would need an explanation in the form of a type of "Tvtime for Dummies" format.  I have also downloaded MythTV which, I have been told, is good for recording videos and TV programs, but I'm not sure how to go about putting it on my system.

This is the third area you have posted the same question.

There is no need to do that.

The problem is your card does not seem to be working.  Without
the card being recognized by the system then neither MythTv or
Tvtime will function.

You need to look at the output of dmesg, lspci and also
lsmod.

dmesg and lspci will tell you if the card is being seen properly and
also the card information.

lsmod will tell you if the module (driver) for that card is the right one
being loaded.

All of the above are commands to used in command line as root.

I finally figured out how to change the card type (it turns out that there is a misprint in the instructions that I had been directed to) so I changed the card type to what I know my tuner is, but I STILL can't do a channel scan.

I tried the Ismod command and got the following response:

and the only thing that I changed in my computer was the operating system.

I tried all that, and when I typed "tvtime" from the terminal (as root), the end result in each case was as follows:

and yes, the tvtime window appeared each time (personally, I think that for some reason the system won't let me change the configuration file in the first place). I had also asked in the "Technical" section if my SAA7130 tuner card would work with this operating system and I was told that there was a good chance of that, which brings up the following question: IF my card isn't working, then why is the operating system detecting it in the first place? Or better yet - what  TV tuner WILL work with TVtime?

I'm sorry, but I had temporarily lost my internet connection for about a month, but during that time I had the opportunity to do some experimenting with the tvtime software, and discovered that when I tried to use it with the "V4LDevice" set to "/dev/video0" (the default value), I ran tvtime from the terminal, and the tvtime window would show up but with a black background (no text OR video) and I would get the following message in the terminal:

BUT, then I changed the value of "V4LDevice" to "/dev/vide42" (the value for my tuner card) the tvtime window appears with a blue background, and the time is displayed in the upper right corner and underneath it says "No video source", and centered in tvtime window below that it says "No signal" - but in the lower left corner it says

"No such file or directory
 Cannot open capture device /dev/video42"

and the message that shows up in the terminal says -
