Noob help on installing software plz!!

how do i install programs such as itunes, photoshop ect... plz help thanks

Those are Windows programs, you can try useing it under wine, but we have an alternative to photoshop called gimp

ok i am still having trouble even with linux files like .tar im new to linux and i like it very much but i would like to know how to install these programs.

Gimp is preinstalled, and you can install wine through the Gslapt package manager.

As herpy was saying, you are going to have to look for Linux alternatives for each windows program you want to run.  In most cases like with photoshop, there is a viable alterantive, in this case the gnu image manipulation program or GIMP.  iTunes, is a different case, because it's a store as well as an ap and locks you into it's own proprietary codec, you may have to run something like that under wine.  

If your music collection is in mp3 format already, there are dozens of viable music players, exhail, banshee, amarok, clemintine, you could try.

Willing to help you one at a time on these, where would you like to start?

First thing you should start with is learning how to install from gslapt package manager.

GSlapt is you best source for packages, bar none.
When a package is not available in gslapt your 2nd best option is to request it here....

If the package is not opensource, however, you may need another option.  This is best handled on a case by case bases.  So if you have something now, let's start with that.

good questions. I agree that gslapt is the first source, but slackbuilds.org is a good second.  I don't like or use wine and don't miss it.  My kids tell me that Rhythmbox is every bit as good as itunes. (www.rhythmbox.org/).

I don't think you can buy anything from the iTunes store with Rhythmbox. For that matter, I don't think you can buy anything from the iTunes store with anything but iTunes even if you're using Windows.

Does slackbuilds.org have prebuilt VL7 packages? I don't think a noob would be interested in compiling source even in an easy way. I wouldn't be.

  True, but my kids say there is more music at rhapsody.com and amazon.com, for about the same price, and, I am told, both work perfectly with rhythmbox. 

As to slackbuild.org, you are probably right.  I certainly stayed away from it for a long time.  But its really very easy to use once you do it a couple of times.  And those programs work well on VL 7.  Example:  If I recall correctly, VL comes with libreoffice, not openoffice.  I prefer openoffice for some reason that now escapes me.  Its easy to get openoffice on slackbuilds.org.

No harm in building applications from source. slackbuilds.org is a good source of SlackBuild too. But you may need some scripting knowleadge to do that. A much more easier way is using Gslapt/slapt-get, it will install the needed dependencies automatically without you building it one by one.

PS: Make a request of the package you need in the forum if you cannot find it in the VL repo and some one will build it for you
