A kernel upgrade to version 3.0.17 dictates one more beta cycle.

Instead of repeating myself, I'll let those who want to review the B1 and B2 announcements here:
http://forum.vectorlinux.com/index.php?topic=15565.0
http://forum.vectorlinux.com/index.php?topic=15696.0

Of special interest is brasero. We'd like to hear if it is stable and functions well on your systems.
Also, please test the "Light - IceWM" install option. It is significantly different from "Full - LXDE".

Get your copy of the ISO from here:
http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-7.0/iso-test/VL7.0-Light-B3.iso
Md5sum: ae9e1c4a38e64a6ffd18d84183cd07f1
If you have B2, save some bandwidth with the delta patch:
http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-7.0/iso-test/VL7.0-Light-B2toB3.delta

And finally, after testing, please go here to provide feedback:
http://forum.vectorlinux.com/index.php?topic=15761.0

Thanks again to everyone who's helping out.

This Really Looks Great!

I used the LIGHT IceWM and have a minor problem.

It looks like there is no application associated to any mime type, if i try to open any file from pcmanfm-mod or spacefm (even installed pcmanfm) the "Choose Application" Dialog is displayed, and the "Recommended Applications" list is empty, i guess i could associate an application to every file-type but it takes time, and i will probably use VL7-Light in at least 4 computers (maybe 7), i don't want to do it that many times and i'm very interested in the Light configuration with spacefm.

By the way, i tested the three file managers (pcmanfm-mod, spacefm and pcmanfm) in a MEDIUM IceWM install, and the three had associated programs to the file types i tried.

is there a way to associate programs to file types automagically?

except for this, everything is running perfectly, i'm installing some programs and testing, will give feedback if something goes wrong.

EDIT: I'm Sorry, i had just submitted my post when i noticed this was the wrong topic, my bad Embarrassed

@Joncho: no problem whatsoever. Thanks for the feedback. Yes, there will be pre-configured associations for common file types in the final release.

http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-7.0/iso-test/
shows RC1 was just added today:
http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-7.0/iso-test/VL7.0-LIGHT-RC1.iso

but no md5sum

Also, is there a reason why you don't provide GPG signatures for verifying the ISOs?

And I thought you guys were not paying attention.  Cheesy

The md5sum will be posted in the release announcement. Never put much thought into md5 vs. PGP.

Lyn, it would be helpful if you went through and checked the file associations, making sure an appropriate program opens when you launch different files.

I have not tested Brasero on VL 7.0 Light but I did test it for VL 7.0 Gold.

  • Would sometimes crash when removing a file from the list.
  • When adding a file-name that is not fully compatible with iso standard [contains %20] it doesn't warn about it until the temporary image is already created.  Then I fixed the conflicting file name, started the burn process again only to find out that I had another file with incompatible naming.  Creating a temporary image first is probably not the right thing to do.
  • Did not detect my cdrom drive and I could not burn a disk with a standard user or root.  I have never had a problem with detection on any other linux.  I installed K3B and was able to burn.

If these problems were not fixed from VL 7.0 Gold then it is likely that they still exist. I hope this is in some way helpful to your debugging process.
