I have a Toshiba min nb 505 with win 7 on it.  I know its a pain to boot on a singe drive so I was going to install Vec 7 onto a usb and boot off of that when I want to run Vec.  The question is do I need to partition my Toshiba with a second sector to store everything I want to share on both systems or will I be able to set up Vec to find the ntfs drive even though it is a bootable windows partition.  If i do have to partition will it be better to format it in fat32 or ntfs.

I think that installing to USB will be a lot more of a pain than re-partitioning your hard drive. My recommendation would be to first use a LiveCD utility like Gparted Live:

Re-size your Win partition, create new partition(s) and boot the install disc.
