RESOLVED - Linux newbie coming from Mac

Kword is good if you don't employ its frames function and great if you do.  As I don't do newspapers, etc, but mostly letters and motions,  I found openoffice to fit my bill a little better.  Now, I mainly use google docs and normally use openoffice or kword only for final format and printing.

And I forgot textmaker.  Its made, I think, by softmaker.  I bought it years ago and still get the free updates (last linux version being Office 2010).  Its good too and has a much smaller footprint, I believe, that either kword or openoffice.  Its not opensource and not free.

I've googled all over trying to learn what frames means in Linux - but all I can find is info about html frames. What ARE frames in linux and  is there a web site that explains?

Bingo! I finally found just the solution to replacing the features of Bean that I love best.

A program called PyRoom will let me get the distraction free full screen mode just like I wanted. I only need to type text - and all the big word processors are so bloated. I like to save all my writing as text files anyway. If I need to pretty them up later - I'll drag them into one of the big processors. But mostly, I just need to get my head down and type. This might be just perfect. I like to make the text really large and display it in a narrow column in the middle of a full empty screen. This helps me catch typos better.
