Hi.

I using VL 7.0 Light. When comes to networking, i prefer NetworkManager than WICD. So I've removed WICD.

I tried install .txz both packages from repo (downloaded from other laptop and copy to pendrive). But it doesn't start.

Later i removed that package and try to compiling from source. Both were success, but when i try to launch 'nm-applet' at terminal, it says command not found.

Any steps that missed?

what packages have you install?

For .txz (its Slackware build since i not found specific for VL)
NetworkManager-openvpn-0.8.2-i486-1vgsb.txz
network-manager-applet-0.8.2-i486-1vgsb.txz

For source
NetworkManager-0.9.4.0.tar.xz
network-manager-applet-0.9.4.0.tar.xz

When i'm install .txz and run nm-applet on terminal, it say libnm-glib.so.4 is missing. Then compiling from source, it's resolved.

Which directory it will install by default? Or need to specify --prefix=/some/directory.

1. Install NetworkManager-0.8.5.92-i586-1vl70 and network-manager-applet-0.8.5.92-i586-1vl70 from VL extra and testing repo via gslapt/slapt-get.
2. run chmod -x /etc/rc.d/rc.wicd in terminal as root
3. edit /etc/rc.d/rc.M, go to line 140 and add networkmanager next to wicd like below
Quote
for RC in route wicd networkmanager; do
   if [ -x /etc/rc.d/rc.$RC ]; then
      /etc/rc.d/rc.text 18 "Setting up $RC"
4. disable wicd in xfce autostart and enable nm-applet.
5. reboot

4. disable wicd in xfce autostart and enable nm-applet.

Since using IceWM, I edited ~/.icewm/startup as follow:

Quote
# run wicd in systray
# wicd-client & (give a comment)

# run nm-applet in systray
nm-applet &

And after save and reboot, i'm able to browse an Internet using my USB WiFi doggle..  Grin

Thanks, hata_ph  Smiley
