networking android controller app with vector

hi, i have a problem running something and i hope someone can help me: i am trying to connect my android through wifi(not 3g) to a controller app from the phone....i have a wireless adapter connected to my laptop running through my home router and the phone has wifi turned on using wireless signal from the router also...why will it not connect... i had to download java server from the internet and it just won't connect, i put the ip address of my phone in the program like it asked me to and then it tries to connect but fails every time, anyone know how i can troubleshoot this?

PS - i tried a couple different controller apps and i get the same thing, other than droidpad, and it connects, but when i push the buttons on the phone, the laptop doesn't recognize them....
also, i can use the droidpad one wired and it works

To control your laptop from your android phone, your best bet is to enable the openssh server in vectorlinux. You can install an ssh client application onto your android phone. You initiate an ssh connection from your phone to your laptop, and issue commands to your laptop. I use "IrssiConnectBot" on my android phone to connect to and control my servers.
