{solved} deinstalling Java...?
« on: March 20, 2012, 03:12:15 pm »

Hi all,

just today I tried to deinstall java from my VL system via gslapt.
On Execute, gslapt told me that it wants to remove several packages that shouldn't be tightly related to Java - among them: gdm, lynx, man(!) and even xfce!!!

WTF? That can't be true, can it? Of course I aborted the deinstallation, for I did not want to risk the system to become trash, which it surely would without XFCE.

But now what?

I want to get rid of Java because I don't need it and (from all I heard about it) it has become a major security risk when surfing the internet.

Any advices are welcome!

That worked. Thx!

Now how do I set it to "solved"...?
(Hmmm... Brute force worked...)

Easier solution is simply disabling the java plugin in your web browser.

Java security risks have been greatly reduced in the past 3 years. A result of more frequent jre updates, more frequent web browser updates... combined with better internal(Sun/Oracle) code review and smarter users...
