Install on T42s: one works, one fails - hardware fault?
« on: April 12, 2012, 08:09:28 am »
I have two IBM Thinkpad T42s.  I installed Vector on one of them with no problem, but this second one (same model!) won't install properly.  At the part where I was asked about the MBR for the 1st install, the 2nd install has skipped that part entirely and simply asks me to choose between Lilo and grub.  Then it complains that the install has failed and I can not get any further than that.

How can I diagnose where the fault is?

Ok, I just tried installing it for the 4th time, this time I put the swap space at the END of the partition table... I don't know if that's what made the difference or not, but the install has worked this time.
