How to use an older Xfce version?
« on: April 17, 2012, 01:54:14 am »

Hi,

I used VL 5.9 for some time and was quite satisfied with the Xfce desktop it provided. Recently I had to reinstall Linux and chose VL 7.0 rc2. It works fine, but I don't like at all the new look of the Xfce desktop. Is it possible to revert to an earlier version of Xfce, or to set up the new version to look like the older one?

It's just the default configuration.

To get the old look, just remove the dock from the bottom (uninstall the package if you dont like it) and move the xfce panel to the bottom of the screen.

Thank you for you explanation!

I only have a problem with moving the Xfce panel to the bottom of my screen. The only option I can choose is whether panel 1 (Xfce panel) and/or panel 2 (quick start ribbon thing at the bottom) should be horizontal or vertical.

This means that the Xfce panel is either on top (when the horizontal option is selected) OR at the left of the screen (with the vertical option selected). There in no option to move it to the bottom!

What can I do?

The panel for  xfce4-4.8.0 (vl7.0std) has handlebars on either side. Just grab and drag it to the bottom with the mouse cursor.

After this long time, i have finally figured out what you meant.

There are hanlebars on the edges of the panel, BUT ONLY if you have unticked the "lock panel" (or similar) option in panel properties. This is also true for the latest version 4.8.6.

Just in case somebody searches for this on the net like me.

I didn't  think they were locked by default.  My bad, thinking otherwise I would have mentioned.
