Cannot get Wireless to work
« on: April 18, 2012, 03:17:39 am »

I have just completed a clean install on a well-endowed HP Laptop, replacing Ubuntu 10.04 / Macbuntu. It worked well but I fancied VL7 woud be slicker. I updated the result via wired Ethernet.

I have configured the wireless interface but 'Status' returns wlan0 not connected.
ifconfig -a shows that it exists.

I have set the frequency and channel number and the WPA pass phrase.
The MAC number hasn't changed. So that is not an issue.

Can anyone help?

In order to help the exact hardware like wireless name, make, model and version number
are needed.

After replying with that information then a better answer is able to be made.

[SOLVED] Re: Cannot get Wireless to work
« Reply #8 on: April 24, 2012, 12:44:09 am »

I didn't make any changes to my settings. I just think cold booting may have made a difference. Once I had opened wicd, selected my SSID, pressed connect and checked the automatic start-up checkbox, my worries were over.

In my opinion a single option on the top bar for wireless, right from the start would be useful for new users.
