Make menuconfig fails
« on: May 06, 2012, 12:58:22 pm »
I have my first 64 bit machine and wanted to take a look at the kernel config, but when i cd to /usr/src/linux and type "make menuconfig" it fails with this message
Quote
root:# make menuconfig
scripts/kconfig/mconf Kconfig
init/Kconfig:1276: can't open file "arch/Kconfig"
make[1]: *** [menuconfig] Error 1
make: *** [menuconfig] Error 2

and sure enough, there is no Kconfig file in the arch subdirectory.

How do i fix this?

if you just want to see the kernel configuration file, look in your /boot/ directory there should be a file called "config-YOUR_KERNEL_VERSION"

Thanks thats interesting reading, i was hoping for something a little more verbose tho and its always informative to read the help included with the kernel config options. What i ended up doing was copying the .config file from the installed kernel to the top level of the 3.0.30 sources, which seemed to me the closest likely match, and running make menuconfig from there.
